What I do:
As many days I am free I go out on Saturday mornings and volunteer with a local group called trail science (trailscience.org). What we do is maintain local trails all around the area along with building new ones! It is a lot of fun and is a great way to start off the day for me!
How this helps the environment:
You may be wondering how this helps the environment, well I am about to show you! The first thing this does is it gets people outisde. These trails provide places for people to walk bike hike and more. With these local trails available it helps people use the planets natural resources as a way to have fun and excercise.
The second reason is that when people are using these trails they are decreasing in air pollution that would have been caused by automobiles. Instead of people driving all over the place during the day or using electricty from their pelaton they can actually go outside and bike or walk or run whithout using electricty. (Electricty lets out carbon emissons).
The last thing that this does it protect the natural habitat. While building these trails, although sometimes you may have to cut bushes or limbs off of trees, these trails create a natural space with lower CO2 levels and good air filtration for wildlife to live (rca.wa.gov). Once these trails are in place and have a label on them they can't be built on unless the people who own the trails say otherwise.
Overveiw:
Volunteering is overall very easy and can be a lot of fun! It's good for so many reasons I didn't even realize until talking to people and doing research about it. Making a change and serving my community is what I try to do, and so can you. Contact me if you have any questions and as always be safe and have fun!
